Polluted Waters utilises carbon zero, water based paint on recycled board that consciously considers low environmental impact materials. Various blue tones and vibrancies visually represent the ocean atmosphere with layered plastic waste on top that references pollution. Imagery includes bottle caps, straws, single use packaging, bottles and plastic bags.
The painting was commissioned by Adidas in support of the Parley ‘Run for the Oceans 2019’ campaign and Auckland launch event on June 11th. It was created live during the event held at the Sustainable Coastlines Flagship, Auckland, New Zealand, where the piece is currently held.
Run for the Oceans is a movement that harnesses the sport of running to raise awareness to the threat of marine plastic pollution and inspire action amongst the community. Uniting runners to join the movement throughout the 2019 campaign, for every km ran and logged, Adidas would donate $1 USD to Parley Ocean School. The funds are in support of educating youth about the implications of plastic pollution and to inspire sustainable action.
